Many of our 20 species of bumble bees are slowing down for the year. Bumble bees have an annual cycle, where a nest will only survive one year. At the end of the year for the nest, male bumble bees and future queens (aka gynes) will be produced. The gynes will mate, forage from flowers and eventually find a nice spot to hibernate during the winter, while the rest of the nest dies off. Only the future queens survive.
