BLUEBIRD SEASON RECAP This year’s bluebird trail brought us so much to observe and learn. Spring cold snaps stretched out egg laying — sometimes up to 2 to 5 days between eggs instead of daily! Summer heat waves led to smaller broods, with some nests holding only 3 eggs instead of 5. Out of 58 eggs, 51 hatched and 50 fledged — an incredible 98% fledge rate! BLUEBIRD TRAIL UPDATE 🪺 After we installed the 4 new bluebird boxes, we made and added Noel Guards. This helps prevent raccoons and snakes from attacking the birds and eggs in the nesting box. 🏷️ We monitor the boxes and work with the New Jersey Bluebird Society to have the birds that are hatched on our farm banded for identification and research. This requires a special permit to be able to apply them and the bands do not harm the bird in anyway because a special bird banding tool is used to
