Fact Slap 👋 Today in 1941, The Japanese Carrier Strike Force sails from its base in The Kuril Islands out into the Northern Pacific...its target is Hawaii and the US Pacific Fleet. The fleet consists of 5 aircraft carriers, 2 battlecruisers, 3 cruisers, 9 destroyers and 3 submarines (these will stay with the Task Force). There are also 8 tankers and supply ships. Repairing the sails aboard the Götheborg is an ongoing task, and we always have a sailmaker on board. In this video from October of last year, our sailmaker Johan Tideland explains the repair work on the second-largest sail onboard, the fore topsail, which measures 230 square meters! Since we have two of each type of sail, while this one was being repaired, we still had another fore topsail in use.
